A Favourite Brother

After a few weeks… I started noticing things. Like how he likes to touch me.
I’m sitting on the couch watching TV. Raph is at my side, Leo’s in the armchair. When Don comes, he rests his forearms upon my head and asks what we’re watching.
He loves spending time with me, I think. He seeks out my company.
“Mikey, do you have a second? I need a bright idea.”
I remember that he said he loves the light in me. He adores the creative energy I radiate.
“Can you come to my room?”
I have a reason to think that I’m Don’s favourite brother.

I’m not mad, you know. I know what I’m doing. It’s just that Leo gets on my nerves. More than he used to.
“You can’t go, Raphael.” “Oh stick that Raphael up your ass. You can’t hold me no matter how long a name you call me.”
There were times we were friends. Not that we aren’t now, but there was none of that over the top disagreement.
Showing me his swollen ankle, Leo spreads his arms. And I as the big brother carry him to the Lair.
He doesn’t complain about us being worse off than before. I think he knew what becoming the leader would cost him.
“Let’s go for a run.”
But I bet he misses it, because I’m still his favourite brother.

Things are getting strange. But he never misses out a chance to talk to me.
I don’t know how I ended up in the garage, when I’m in the middle of a biochemical experiment. It was something about red paint, I think.
One would think it odd of him, to be so fond of hanging out with me when we’re completely different. But somehow it works. I may not see him for days. Then he always comes back.
“Hey Don, I know it’s 2 a.m., but I think I’ve got a busted wrist. Can you fix me up?”
I don’t ask because he won’t answer. But I always knew…
“How about a ride?”
Despite our unlikeness, I’m Raph’s favourite brother.

Finally things are starting to fall together. And Mikey never leaves my side.
“Please? I had a nightmare. Can I bed with you? I promise I won’t snore or drool. Much.”
A few times a day I catch him watching me with those blue eyes. If his attention span wasn’t so short, he’d probably stalk me all day long. Mark that those were his words.
While I make sure that no security device goes off, Mikey happily chooses this month’s supply of sweets. I remember what he bought the first time we raided a candy shop. So does he.
Out of my brothers, he understands me the best. He says he admires me for what I do.
“Come on, horror movie time!”
All that is a part of the fact… that I’m his favourite brother.

In this world, we only have each other. If one of us goes down, we all go down. So focus.

Jak sladké. Zpátky na fanfikce.
