Night Fears

Leonardo was sleeping peacefully when a shadow appeared next to his bed. It poked him and said:
“Will you share the bed?”
Recognising the voice, Leo drowsily moved to the wall and offered space on his bed. The shadow quickly slipped in and nestled close to him.
“Bad dream,” it explained.
Leonardo stroked its head. “What about?” he asked quietly.
“Long corridors and voices calling…” it muttered.
“So the usual?”
“Yuh-huh.”
Leonardo embraced the shadow, tucking its forehead under his chin. He started falling asleep again.
“And…”
Woken he listened.
“Someone was telling me…
Just because you don’t know about it
doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.
Just because you don’t see it
doesn’t mean it isn’t there.
Just because you don’t remember it
doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.”
“Who said it?” Leonardo asked. The shadow shook its head.
“I don’t know. But it felt like… um, a vision?” it said unsurely.
“It’s possible,” Leonardo mumbled. “Do you think you’ll remember it in the morning, or do you want to write it down?”
“No, I’ll… Yeah, let’s sleep now.” The shadow sighed and shifted a bit. “Night.”
“Good night.”
And they slept until morning.
